HOMICIDE at 200 Jackson St W, Hamilton

At approx. 1:34pm on the 31st of July, 2016, HPS, HFD and EMS responded to a fire on the 7th floor of 200 Jackson St W.

Upon arrival HFD dealt with the fire and when they checked inside the apartment they found a female. They got her out of the apartment but she was ‘vital signs absent’. She was transported to the HGH and pronounced dead.

Later that evening a male known to the 65 year old female victim was arrested. A 66 year old male who lives in the same building is in custody now and will be charged with 1st degree murder.

Names of the victim and the accused will be released later today after the male appears in court.

A post mortem to determine the cause of death is being conducted today in the Forensic Pathology Morgue at the HGH. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified and will be assisting in the investigation.
