(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On November 5, 2015 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Sligo Road East near Main Street North, Mount Forest.
A 1996 Dodge pickup truck struck another vehicle that was stopped at a red light and the male driver of the pickup left the scene. The other driver involved followed the pickup and it came to a stop a few blocks away at Perth Street and Durham Street West. Police attended the scene and spoke with those involved. Upon speaking with the driver of the pickup, police determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to an OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
79-year-old Ewald ROMANOWSKI of Wellington North Township has been charged with Over 80 mgs, Impaired Driving and Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on December 11, 2015.
