(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Saturday July 30, 3016 around 3:20 a.m., members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the intersection of St. Andrew Street and Ontario Road in Mitchell where a vehicle had collided with large round concrete traffic calming planters.
Investigation indicated that what appeared to be a large wheeled vehicle had been driving westbound on Ontario road when it struck a planter on the northeast corner and another planter on the northwest corner of the intersection. The impact caused one of the planters to break, resulting in chunks of concrete and dirt all over the St. Andrew Street. A parked vehicle near the planter was struck by a piece of planter cement causing minor damage to the taillight and rear fender.
No description of the vehicle responsible for the damage was obtained, as it departed the scene prior to police arrival. The tire prints at the scene may be those of an agricultural piece of equipment. The Municipality of West Perth Public Roads Department attended the intersection and cleaned up the debris.
The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has knowledge as to the person responsible for the damage. They can be contacted at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000
