On the 18th of June 2016, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a vehicle was travelling east along Edna Street and turned North onto Frederick Street, in the city of Kitchener. The vehicle, a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup, left the roadway, striking the curb on the west side of Frederick Street, colliding with a wooden utility pole.
The truck sheared the pole and continued through a garden, a parking lot and impacted a support column for a building located at 460 Frederick Street. The driver fled the scene. Unsuccessful attempts were made to locate the male with the assistance of a K9 officer. There was evidence that the driver had been consuming alcohol in the vehicle and was travelling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The driver was believed to be injured in the collision. Police are looking to speak with the registered owner of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Services Branch or Crimestoppers.
