Hit And Run, Failing To Share Road – TERPSTRA Charged

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On October 5, 2016 at approximately 5:26 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to single motor vehicle collision on Southgate Rd. 22 near Southgate Rd. 47 in the Township of Southgate. Police were advised that another vehicle indirectly involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.

Investigation revealed that a 2008 Subaru was travelling eastbound on Southgate Rd. 22 when it was forced off the road by a westbound 2003 Dodge RPC pick-up truck driving in the centre of the roadway. The driver of the Subaru lost control of the vehicle which rolled and collided with a tree. Despite extensive damage to the vehicle, the driver of the Subaru, a 24 year old Windsor woman and her 23 year old female passenger were not injured. The driver of the Dodge failed to stop.

After speaking with a number of witnesses, police were able to identify the suspect vehicle and driver.

Clayton TERPSTRA, 27, of the Township of Southgate was charged with failing to report an accident and failing to share the roadway – meeting vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
