Highway 8 Now Open After Multiple Collisions

(HURON EAST, ON) – The section of Huron Road (Highway 8) east of Seaforth that was closed earlier this morning as a result of two separate motor vehicle collisions has just been re-opened.

The first collision occurred on Huron Road near Hensall Road when the driver of a westbound sports utility vehicle lost control of his vehicle trying to pass two vehicles. The driver of the sports utility vehicle clipped the lead vehicle he was passing causing him to leave the roadway and roll his vehicle. The single occupant, a 46 year old male driver from Waterloo was transported to hospital with minor injuries. He has since been released from hospital.

Less than ten minutes later, at nearly same location, the driver of an eastbound Chevrolet Cobalt lost control of her vehicle and sideswiped two tractor-trailers that were travelling westbound on Huron Road. After the Cobalt collided with the second tractor-trailer the Cobalt was struck by a following eastbound motor vehicle that attempted to take evasive action to avoid the collision. The female driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt has been transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Huron OPP reminds drivers to always drive according to weather and road conditions. Drivers need to be prepared for unexpected weather and road conditions at all times.

Slow down and drive safely.
