High Winds Cause Damage and Block Roads

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) On Wednesday May 05, 2010 late in the afternoon, Perth County OPP officers were called to numerous incidents caused by high winds and heavy rains within the county.

At 4:50 p.m. officers in West Perth were dispatched to a tree which had fall across Road 137 between Lines 12 and 16. The tree had caused hydro wires to come down, creating a hazardous situation. The West Perth Fire Department and OPP blocked the road while Hydro One and the roads department removed all hazards. The road was re-opened at 6 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to a broken hydro pole on Road 111 between Line 26 and Line 29. This resulted in hydro wires hanging dangerously low above the road. The road remained closed until shortly after 8 p.m. when Hydro One had completed the necessary repairs.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Perth County OPP officers in St.Marys were called to the South Service Road near James St. South where high winds had caused a full sized tractor trailer truck to be tipped onto its side. The road was closed until approximately 8 p.m.

None of these incidents resulted in personal injuries.
