Shortly after 11:00 a.m. yesterday, police responded to a disturbance between two students at a high school in Chatham. Through investigation, police learned that a 16-year-old student was approached by an 18-year-old student during the lunch break. The older student demanded money and when he was denied, he pushed the younger student to the ground and began punching him. Following the assault, he stole cigarettes from the victim’s sweatshirt pocket and fled the school property.
The victim did not seek medical attention. Just before 5:00 p.m. the 18-year-old Raleigh Township student was arrested and charged with robbery. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
