Heroes Take A Stand And Detain Criminal Until Police Arrive – Andrew Soares Arrested

Halton Police credit duo for their actions in ending a rash of thefts from unlocked motor vehicles.

Shortly before noon on June 20th, 2016 a vehicle owner and a member of the public confronted a male suspect who had been observed entering an unlocked motor vehicle in the area of Main Street East and Wilson Avenue in the Town of Milton.

Police were called and officers quickly responded to the scene where they found the suspect detained. Police subsequently arrested the suspect for theft.

A follow up investigation by detectives from the criminal investigations bureaus’ street crime unit revealed that between the 2nd and 20th of June 2016 the suspect was responsible for several thefts of personal items and credit cards from unlocked vehicles.

After the thefts, the stolen credit and debit cards were utilized by the suspect to make fraudulent transactions in and around the Milton area.

On the 21st of June 2016 investigators executed a search warrant at a Milton address and located evidence in relation to these incidents.

Charged is Andrew Soares (27yrs) of Milton. Mr. Soares is facing the following charges:

Three counts of Theft under $5,000

Five counts of Fraudulent use of a credit card

One count of Possession of property obtained by crime

Soares was held for a bail hearing.

Police would like to stress the importance of keeping vehicles secure and valuables removed from sight when not in use.
