(North Kawartha Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were dispatched to assist at a snowmobile collision on Fire Route 59 off of Anstruther Lake Road yesterday shortly before 3:30pm.
The operator was a prospective buyer and had travelled to the Apsley area to test drive the machine. The rider lost control of the sled after striking an exposed rock on the road and was thrown into a tree. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Clifford SMITH (age 52) of Douro-Dummer Township was transported first to Bancroft hospital and later transferred to a Kingston area hospital with serious injuries.
The small cottage road was closed to traffic for several hours while collision investigators measured and documented the scene. The road was reopened shortly before 8:00pm.
