Perth County – The Perth District Health Unit has released its 2013 Annual Report. The report highlights achievements and activities over the past fiscal year. It also shows the Health Unit’s performance in aligning with its Strategic Plan and in meeting the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s standards and accountability agreements.
A feature article in the report compares the leading causes of death in Perth County between now and 40 years ago (1973). The change in mortality causes shows that in Perth County we have an aging population, that there has been a rise in diabetes, and that we have made strides in prevention, detection and treatment of heart disease and stroke.
Highlights of Health Unit activities in 2013 outlined in the report include:
100% of personal service settings (spas, salons) were inspected
Panorama, a new electronic recording system to record and track immunization, was implemented
322 warnings and 26 charges were laid under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act
Progress was made towards achieving Baby-Friendly Initiative designation
Residents were urged to “rethink your drinking†with a campaign
6,756 immunizations were given at child, travel, school, flu and zostavax clinics.
