Public Health is giving local residents an opportunity to have their say about foods and beverages sold at recreation spaces. An online survey, Grey Bruce Recreation Space Food & Drink Survey, open until June 30, asks what food and beverages you currently buy and what else you want to see available at recreation spaces in Grey Bruce.
It’s clear that people are passionate. More than 200 responses have been received to date, with sentiments ranging from “don’t take away our treats” to “it’s about time we made it easier to buy something healthy.”
The survey results will provide the local input to help municipalities make informed decisions about adding healthier food options.
“It’s all about giving consumers the choices that support both healthy eating and being active.” says Public Health Dietitian, Kathryn Forsyth. “When considered together these two elements can truly support a healthier community.”
This consumer survey is the next step in the Action Plan identified in the 2015 report Healthy Food Choices and Tap Water in Municipal Recreation Facilities & Affiliated Public Spaces. The report shows there is room to improve the food choices in recreation spaces. Recognizing healthy eating is an important way to stay healthy, the report identifies recreational facilities as an ideal setting for the pairing and promotion of physical activity and healthy eating.
