(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On February 27, 2018 at approximately 6:18 a.m. Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), together with members of the OPP West Region Urgency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit, responded to a report of an armed male in the village of Flesherton, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
The suspect, armed with a hatchet, attended the residence of his estranged girlfriend after she had received threatening text messages from him. He had left the area prior to police arrival.
As a safety precaution, the two local schools were notified of the incident.
At approximately 8:33 a.m. the suspect, a 32-year old male, from the Township of Southgate, was arrested in Flesherton without incident and taken to hospital for assessment.
Police recovered the hatchet. There were no injuries reported.
An audio bail hearing was scheduled on February 27, 2018. The accused was remanded into custody. A bail hearing is scheduled for March 8, 2018.
The 33-year old accused (not 32 as previously reported) is facing the following charges:
– Criminal Harassment – Threatening Conduct
– Mischief – Domestic
– Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm – Spousal
– Criminal Harassment – Repeatedly Communicate
– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
– Uttering Threats – Damage Property
