Hanover Takes Home Ontario Economic Development Award Two Years Straight

Toronto — Last night at the 59th Annual Economic Developers Council of Ontario Awards Banquet, Hanover received its second straight Ontario Economic Development Award.

Top honours went to Hanover in the Building and Planning/Strategic Plans category for the establishment of LaunchPad Youth Activity & Technology Centre. “We’re ecstatic to be recognized for our regional work in youth retention. This award demonstrates the great work of many collaborations and partnerships, and reinforces that we are committed to our youth and our community,” said Savanna Schaus, Economic Development and Communications Coordinator.

LaunchPad is an important economic development tool for the region. Not only does it bring Hanover one step closer towards Youth Friendly Community platinum designation, it also aims to disrupt rural youth outmigration. Youth are immersed in skill development and connected to local leaders and opportunities. “We’re so proud of the progressive work we’ve done to improve our community today and prime ourselves for the future. Thank you to the Economic Developers Council of Ontario for recognizing our accomplishments province-wide,” said Mayor Sue Paterson.

LaunchPad Youth Activity & Technology Centre provides a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where youth can participate in programs and initiatives that connect them to their community while fostering positive social interactions and personal skill development. The goal is to show youth that there is a welcome place in their community and that we are committed to the betterment of their future – ensuring we have done all that we can to enhance their employability, and therefore their future opportunities.

LaunchPad was made possible by a Rural Economic Development Grant received in 2014 from the Province of Ontario.
