Hamilton Police Media Relations Officers arrest youth with a loaded handgun

On Monday October 31, 2016, just shortly before noon, Hamilton Police Media Relations Officers were returning to the police station in an unmarked vehicle driving east along York Boulevard. As the officers approached Bay Street North they observed a male dressed in dark coloured clothing running across the roadway through traffic. The officers watched him run from the street and immediately begin assaulting another male on the sidewalk on the south side of York Boulevard.

The officer’s immediately exited the vehicle and began approaching them on foot as the fight and struggle continued between the males. Out of view from the officers, was a loaded handgun that the male running across the street had produced and was pointing it at the other male.

He was seen pointing it at the male during the struggle as the officers were making their way closer. Seeing the Police the male turned away tucking the firearm inside of his shirt while starting to run away west along York Boulevard towards Bay Street North.

One of the officers pursued him on foot until he was arrested without further incident. A search revealed that the youth was in possession of a loaded handgun, additional ammunition and a knife.

Police opposed his bail and he is now before the courts to answer to the charges.

The victim was treated for minor injuries.
