What is YEP?
Every Tuesday evening starting September 22, 2015 to December 8, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Guelph Police Service.
Objectives
Enhance relations between youth and police in our community
To assist youth in better understanding youth related crime trends in our schools and neighbourhoods
To give youth a different perspective into their community through the eyes of the police
To provide a highly interactive, hands on and engaging experience with the police
Course Outline and Brief Overview:
Students from Guelph high schools in grades 10, 11, 12 and 12+ will work with each other, Police Officers and community partners to discuss ways for youth to address youth crime issues.
Traffic Unit relating to various traffic issues – such as stunt driving, impaired driving
Youth crime and crime trends as they relate to youth.
Sexual Assault Unit and their role with youth.
Technological Crime Unit and ICE unit talk about the digital world we live in now.
Intelligence and Drug Unit discussions on drug issues affecting youth.
Youth Court Judge, Crown Attorney and Defence Attorney present the court system.
Tactical Response Unit/Use of Force s to see what it takes to become a Police Officer.
Guest lecturers from outside of the policing environment will speak on their roles in working with youth involved in crime.
There will be a group project that will be completed by the end of the ten week session. The project will show how youth can make a difference in crime prevention.
Team brain storming sessions to discuss current issues effecting youth at your school and in your community.

The above are only a few of the highlights of the YOUTH ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM. The program is designed to be a FREE interactive and fun filled learning program.
Participation in the program earns the students 20 community service hours towards the 40 hour high school requirement.
