Guelph Police Weekend Report

  1. Damage to cars on Rhonda Road – arrest made

    On May 4, 2015 at 1:26 a.m., the Guelph Police responded to Rhonda Road in response to the report of a male damaging vehicles. Police located three vehicles belonging to residents in the area that had been damaged. Further, police found stolen items that were removed from one of the vehicles. Continued investigation led to the arrest of the responsible male.

    A 23-year-old Guelph man has been charged with theft under $5,000, utter threats and three counts of mischief to property under $5,000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 4, 2015.

    2. Break and enter

    On May 3, 2015 at 7:04 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a gas bar kiosk on Scottsdale Drive to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) smashed a window and reached in to steal cigarettes sometime overnight.

    3. Impaired driver

    On May 3, 2015 at 1:44 a.m., the Guelph Police received the complaint of a possible impaired driver in the area of Edinburgh Road and Paisley Road. Police located the vehicle at Wellington Street and Imperial Road. The female driver was spoken too and it was determined she had been drinking alcohol.

    Mary Schell, 46 years of Cambridge has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. She will appear in court on May 15, 2015.

    4. Robbery

    On May 2, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., the Guelph Police investigated a robbery that occurred in the area of Janfield Avenue and Scottsdale Drive. It is alleged that a lone male had been walking through a field next to Janefield Avenue when three males in a vehicle stopped on the road, got out and ran at him. They began punching and kicking him before stealing his backpack and leaving the area in the car. The victim received minor injuries.

    The suspects were described only as black males.

    The vehicle was described as a silver sedan type vehicle.

    5. Impaired driver

    On May 2, 2015 at 6:32 p.m., the Guelph Police received the complaint of a female asleep in the driver’s seat of a car parked in a parking lot off Gordon Street near downtown. Police located the vehicle and spoke with driver. It was determined that she had been drinking alcohol and she was arrested.

    Janet Cross, 49 years of Guelph has been charged with care and control impaired and care and control over 80mg. She will appear in court on June 9, 2015.

    6. Single car into hydro pole

    On May 1, 2015 at 9:55 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a collision at Gordon Street and Kortright Road. It is alleged that a silver Volkswagon station wagon, driven by a 19-year-old Waterloo female, turned from Gordon onto Kortright, lost control and struck a hydro pole. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Guelph General Hospital.

    Damage to the hydro pole was extensive, and resulted in the road way being closed off by police for several hours while hydro crews worked to repair the damage.

    The driver has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

    7. Cyclist strikes truck – charges laid

    On May 1, 2015 at 9:10 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a cyclist/motor vehicle collision on Gordon Street. It is alleged that a blue Ford Ranger pickup turning into a business on Gordon Street was struck by a cyclist who was riding on the sidewalk. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported to Guelph General Hospital.

    The cyclist, a 29-year-old Toronto male, was charged with ride bicycle on a sidewalk, City of Guelph Bylaw (2002) 17017/14.

    The driver of the Ford, a 26-year-old Windsor woman, was charged with drive motor vehicle- no licence under the Highway Traffic Act.

    8. Drug charges downtown

    On May 1, 2015 at 10:22 a.m., members of the Guelph Police Service commenced a project in the downtown core of Guelph in an attempt to combat the drug activity taking place there. As a result, two Guelph males were arrested for drug related charges.

    Antonio Grella, 51 years of Guelph has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance. He will appear in court on June 9, 2015.

    Dylan Boyd, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on June 9, 2015.

    Guelph Police will be increasing enforcement to reduce the drug activity in the downtown in the upcoming summer months.

    9. Impaired driver

    On May 1, 2015 at 7:30 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Stone Road and Gordon Street after it registered a high speed on radar. The vehicle had two occupants, the male driver and a small child in the back seat. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

    Gregory Dennison, 42 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 9, 2015.
