Guelph Police Weekend Report

  1. Collision leads to arrest for impaired driving

    On June 27th, 2015 at 3:13 a.m., the Guelph Police attended to a collision on Kortright Road West where a single motor vehicle mounted the centre median and struck a tree. In speaking with the driver, it was determined he had been drinking alcohol.

    Abdul Hakimi, 27 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and refuse to provide a breath sample. He will appear in court on July 14th, 2015.

    2. Dangerous driver in Riverside Park

    On June 27th, 2015 at 6:20 a.m., the Guelph Police attended to the entrance of Riverside Park where it was reported that a vehicle was in the ditch. Investigation determined that the vehicle had been driving inside the park where it is alleged to have struck two poles causing pieces of the vehicle to fall off.

    An 18 year old Guelph male has been charged with dangerous driving, breach recognizance, breach YCJA probation as well as five provincial offence charges. He will appear in court on June 29th, 2015.

    3. Collision results in major damage

    On June 27th, 2015 at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Guelph Police attended to a collision on Paisley Road at Hewitt Lane. It is alleged that a 2008 Honda being operated by a 22 year-old Sarnia man attempted to cross Paisley Road in order to enter a private residence. At the same time, a 2015 Subaru being operated by a 22 year-old Barrie woman was travelling eastbound on Paisley Road.

    The vehicles collided on Paisley Road in what is best described as a ‘T-bone’ style collision. This initial contact set off a sequence of events that saw both drivers lose control of their motor vehicles and leave the roadway.

    The Honda came to rest after striking a cement hydro pole on the front lawn of a residence on Paisley Road.

    The Subaru left the roadway striking numerous items including a cement fence and tree, coming to rest against the front porch of a residence on Paisley Road.

    The rain this weekend may have averted a potential tragedy as there were no children or pedestrians outdoors in the area at the time of this collision and none of the involved drivers reported any injuries.

    Damage is extensive. Both vehicles were demolished and the damages sustained to both residences could push this total to exceed $40,000.00.

    A 22 year-old Sarnia man has been charged under the Highway Traffic for Failing to Yield to Traffic on a Through Highway.

    4. Impaired driver arrested

    On June 28th, 2015 at 1:56 a.m., the Guelph Police received calls about a possible impaired driver. Police located a vehicle leaving the city on Highway 7 and conducted a traffic stop. Police spoke with the driver and determined that he had been drinking alcohol.

    A 27 year old Waterloo male has been charged with impaired, operate over 80mgs and breach of undertaking.

    5. Break enter and theft

    On June 28th, 2015 at 6:15 p.m., Guelph Police responded to a Manor Park Crescent home to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the home through a window during the daytime and stole numerous items.

    6. Thefts from cars

    Over the weekend the Guelph Police received numerous reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their vehicles. The locations were Drummond Avenue, Simmonds Drive, Franklin Avenue, Water Street, Meyer Drive, Lincoln Crescent, Cheltonwood Avenue, Walnut Drive and Westminster Avenue.

    This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
