Guelph Police Weekend Report

The beginning of the long August weekend saw traffic officers involved in several serious investigations which included street racing, a severed gas main, and a collision that involved the death of a 50 year-old Stratford man.

Street Racing:

On Friday, July 31, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. officers were conducting speed enforcement on Imperial Road near Ferman Drive when a northbound motor vehicle was observed travelling at a very high rate of speed. This vehicle recorded a speed reading in excess of 100 km/h in a 50 km/h residential zone. This vehicle was stopped and the 20 year-old Guelph man driving had his driver’s licence and vehicle seized for seven days.

Gas Main Severed in Collision:

On Friday, July 31, 2015 at 11:00 p.m. officers attended to a Silvercreek Parkway North apartment after several reports of a vehicle striking the side of a building. Further information was received that a gas main had been severed in the collision. The Guelph Fire Department and Union Gas also attended to the scene after it was discovered that a large gas main, which supplied the apartment building had been severed. The driver of the car, a 26 year-old Guelph woman was not injured in the collision. A number of tenants had to be evacuated for their safety. Damage is extensive and charges are pending.

Collision Involves the Death of a 50 year-old Stratford Man:

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on the morning of August 1st, officers attended to the parking lot of a motel on Silvercreek Parkway North. The initial calls received indicated that a pick-up truck had left Woodlawn Road and collided with a number of parked cars in the above mentioned lot. The driver was found unconscious and not breathing. The first responding officers initiated CPR. The driver was taken to Guelph General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
