Guelph Police Weekend Report

Drug arrests downtown

On November 8, 2015 at 7:36 a.m., the Guelph Police received a call that three males and one female were using drugs at the VIA Rail Station on Carden Street. Police located all four and observed what appeared to be Crystal Meth with them and they were all arrested. A search subsequent to their arrest discovered more Crystal Meth, a small quantity of Marihuana, a can of pepper spray and identity documents that did not belong to the person that had them.

Robert Gaigneur, 26 years of Guelph has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of breach of probation, possession of identity documents, possession of a prohibited weapon, carry a concealed weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order. He will appear in court on November 9, 2015.

Jeffrey Dillon, 29 years of Guelph has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and three counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on November 9, 2015.

Stewart Letts, 24 years of Guelph has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation. He will appear in court on November 17, 2015.

Kristen Bolt, 18 years of Guelph has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on November 17, 2015.

Cyclist struck

On November 8, 2015 at 5:50 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Gordon Street and Surrey Street for cyclist/car collision. It is alleged that a cyclist travelling north on Gordon struck a blue four door Toyota crossing at Surrey Street. The cyclist, a 37-year-old Guelph male, was transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 35-year-old Guelph male, was not injured but was charged with drive- no licence, and careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Damage is estimated at $1,500.

City bus struck

On November 7, 2015 at 11:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Woodlawn Road at Invernesss Road for a collision involving a City bus and a Subaru. It is alleged that a 27-year-old Guelph woman was operating a 1998 Subaru southbound on Inverness approaching Woodlawn. At the same time, a full size Guelph Transit bus with eight passengers, was being operated by a 53-year-old Guelph man eastbound on Woodlawn at the intersection of Inverness Drive. The driver of the bus who was proceeding on a green traffic signal, turned left onto Inverness. The driver of the Subaru, facing a red traffic signal, proceeded into the intersection and consequently drove into the left side of the bus.

The primary contributing factor in this collision was the condition of the windows on the Subaru. They were frosted over obscuring the field of vision of the driver. There were no injuries to any of the involved parties in this collision. Damage to the Subaru was in excess of $3,000. The damage to the bus is estimated at $500. The driver of the Subaru has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Guelph Police would like to remind all drivers that as the colder weather approaches to please ensure that you maintain a clear, and unobstructed view of the roadway. This means clearing all windows on your vehicle.

Power assisted bicycle struck – two injured

On November 7, 2015 at 10:20 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Speedvale Avenue East near Delhi Street for a collision between a Cab and a power assisted bicycle. It is alleged that the Red Top Taxi travelling east on Speedvale, struck a power-assisted bicycle also travelling east. The two occupants of the power assisted bicycle, a 34-year-old and a 28-year-old, both from Guelph, sustained significant but non-life threatening injuries, and were transported to Guelph General Hospital.

The driver of the Taxi, a 43-year-old Guelph male, was uninjured. Damage to the two vehicles is estimated at $8,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cyclist injured/charged in collision

On November 7, 2015 at 5:24 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Norfolk Street at Quebec Street for a cyclist/car collision. It is alleged that a cyclist travelling west on Quebec approaching Norfolk struck a white Ford travelling east on Paisley Road. The cyclist, a 62-year-old Guelph male, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Guelph General Hospital for observation. The driver of the Ford, a 55-year-old Guelph male, was not injured. The cyclist has been charged with red light- fail to stop, and improper lighting under the Highway Traffic Act.

Break and enter

On November 6, 2015 at 2:18 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an Oxford Street residence to investigate a break and enter. A male had entered the home that is having work done by contractors, at approximately 2:00 p.m. and stole a Macbook. He is described as white, late twenties, under 6’ tall, brown hair and he had a black canvas bag.

Impaired driver arrested

On November 8, 2015 at 2:46 a.m., the Guelph Police received a call about a possible impaired driver on Gordon Street near downtown. Police located the vehicle and its occupants parked in a parking lot on Gordon Street. The male in the driver’s seat exited the vehicle when police arrived and started to walk away, leaving the keys in the ignition. Police investigation led to his arrest.

Joseph Kingsbury, 21 years of Erin has been charged with care and control impaired and care and control over 80mg. He will appear in court on November 24, 2015.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were George Street, Westwood Road, Ridgewood Avenue, Galt Street, Cedar Street and two on Rickson Avenue.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Bicycles stolen

Over the weekend four reports of thefts of bicycles were reported to police. In all four incidents the bikes had been on a residential property. In one report, a different bike was left behind. Bicycle thefts continue to be an all too common crime everywhere.

Locking your bike properly and high end locks offer the best protection for your bike but make sure you know your serial number and have a good description of it in case it does get stolen.
