Break and enter – two arrested
On December 4, 2016 at 9:25 a.m., the Guelph Police received a call that a male and female had cut the lock to a fenced compound at a Victoria Road South business and were now standing by York Road with a shopping cart. Police located them and the investigation led to their arrest. Searches subsequent to their arrest discovered instruments consistent in use with break and enters as well as a small quantity of Crystal Meth and Marihuana.
A 42-year-old Guelph man has been charged with break and enter, possession of break-in in tools and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on December 5, 2016.

Police patrol leads to arrest
On December 4, 2016 at 3:42 p.m., the Guelph Police investigated a male and a vehicle parked at a motel on Woodlawn Road West. The investigation determined that the male had breached a condition of his probation and he was arrested. Further investigation discovered stolen property inside the vehicle and tools consistent with use in break and enters. A subsequent search of the man located a spring assisted knife.
A 35-year-old Cambridge male has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, carry a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order and four counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on December 5, 2016.
Break and enter
On December 2, 2016 at 8:11 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Bristol Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked door sometime overnight. A theft of tools is reported.

On December 2, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Metcalfe Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked rear door and stole electronics and alcohol.

On December 2, 2016 at 6:11 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Paisley Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke a window to gain entry sometime during the day. A theft of electronics and alcohol is reported.

Patrol leads to arrest
On December 3, 2016 at 1:15 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a parked vehicle at a business on Waterloo Avenue with its lights on. Police approached the vehicle and located a male inside. The male was asked to exit the vehicle. A large screw driver fell to the ground as he exited and observations were made that the driver’s side door appeared pried open and the ignition damaged. The man was arrested and a subsequent search discovered numerous identity documents that did not belong to him.
Michael Kilby, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of break-in instruments, attempt theft of motor vehicle, two counts of breach of probation and five counts of possession of stolen property. He will appear in court on December 5, 2016.
Traffic stop leads to arrest
On December 3, 2016 at 10:41 p.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Eramosa Road. Investigation determined that the male driver was breaching a curfew condition of his probation and he was arrested. A subsequent search discovered a small quantity of Marihuana.
A 17-year-old Rockwood male has been charged with three counts of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on January 11, 2017.
R.I.D.E.
On December 3/4, 2016 between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 525 vehicles were checked by officers with two roadside screening tests being administered. Both drivers registered alcohol but were found to be within the legal limit to operate their vehicles.
One Driver was observed to approach the RIDE lane safety cones and come to a stop just prior to colliding with them. Officers directed the driver into the RIDE safety lane and upon speaking to him placed him under arrest for impaired driving.
Daniel Armishaw, 32 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving, drive over 80mg and breach of probation. He will appear in court on December 20, 2016.
Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received ten reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Swift Crescent, two on Cedarvale Street, Eastview Road, Hagan Avenue and five on Couling Crescent.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Fire at 7070 Fife Rd

On Dec 5, 2016 at 3:36 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 7070 Fife Road. Units arrived at the scene and found a fully involved abandoned barn fire. The roof had collapsed and most of the walls had fallen in prior to our arrival. A defensive attack was used to knock down the remaining fire. A Tanker from the Puslinch Fire Department assisted with the initial water supply.
Crews remain on scene to knock down hot spots and Fire Prevention are also conducting their investigation.
There were no injuries to fire personnel.
The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation.

Fire at 604 Silvercreek Pkwy N

On Dec 5, 2016 at 1:19 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 604 Silvercreek Parkway North. On arrival units found a fully involved structure fire. A defensive attack was used to quickly knock down the fire and an abandoned house close to the structure was protected using hand lines. At the time of this report crews remain on scene knocking down hot spots.
There were no injuries to fire personnel.
The Fire Prevention Office is still on scene conducting their investigation.
