Guelph Police Weekend Report

Search warrant finds bikes

On November 20, 2015, the arrest of a male at his residence led to a search warrant being executed at that Bristol Street residence on November 21, 2015. Police discovered and seized eleven bikes, frames, bike parts, tires and tools during the search.

Joseph Lawrence, 35 years of Guelph has been charged with breach of probation and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He will appear in court on December 8, 2015.

Please do not call to see if your bike is one of the recovered bikes. If your bike has been reported stolen, we will compare the bikes to those reports.

Break and enter

On November 21, 2015, the Guelph Police went to an Elmira Road North business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime between 10 p.m. on November 20 and 9:30 a.m. on November 21. A large quantity of meat is reported stolen.

Disturbance downtown leads to drug charge

On November 21, 2015 at 2:20 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a disturbance on Macdonell Street. During this investigation one male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of Cocaine.

Tyler Dawes, 22 years of Guelph has been charged with breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on December 8, 2015.

Hit and run – charges laid

On November 21, 2015 at 10:07 p.m., the Guelph Police received a call about a hit and run collision that involved three vehicles at the intersection of Watson Road North and Grange Road. The vehicle that left the scene was then abandoned on Watson Road and Severn Drive. The police investigation led to two arrests a short time later. A search of the males subsequent to their arrest discovered on one male, two replica handguns, several knives, live ammunition and break and enter tools. The other male had a quantity of Hydro-morphine pills.

Lee Bloxam, 33 years of Guelph has been charged with take motor vehicle without consent, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, possession of break and enter tools, weapons dangerous and possession of a weapon knowing it’s unauthorized. He will appear in court on January 6, 2016.

Nicholas Newman, 26 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on January 8, 2015.

Impaired driver

On November 21, 2015 at 12:30 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle after observing it being driven erratically on Stone Road West. Police spoke with the female driver, determined she was impaired and she was arrested.

Shelley Johnston, 43 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. She will appear in court on December 1, 2015.

Impaired by drug arrest

On November 21, 2015 at 6:32 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision at Wellington Street and Gordon Street. Police spoke with one of the involved drivers and discovered that he had taken sleeping pills a couple hours before. He appeared impaired and was arrested.

Gordon Hovey, 67 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving by drug. He will appear in court on January 6, 2016.

Impaired driver

On November 22, 2015 at 12:48 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle after observing it being driven erratically in the downtown area. Police spoke with the male driver, determined he was impaired and he was arrested.

Michael D’Agostini, 22 years of Toronto has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on December 8, 2015.

Drive over 80 mg – arrest

On November 22, 2015 at 2:58 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Victoria Road North. Police spoke with the female driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. She failed this test and was arrested.

Lori Bittorf, 29 years of Fergus has been charged with drive over 80 mg. She will appear in court on December 8, 2015.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Paisley Road, Wellington Street East, Scottsdale Drive and Wyndham Street South.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Fire at 91 Wyndham Street North

On November 22, 2015 at 4:40 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 91 Wyndham Street North. Units from all stations arrived at the scene and found smoke in the building, but no obvious fire.

Aggressive interior and roof operations were successful in locating the fire which was extinguished shortly after. During the fire, Wyndham St. N. and Douglas St. were closed to traffic. Nearby businesses were closed for the evening and pedestrians were not allowed to pass in front of the building. By late evening, Wyndham St. and Douglas St. were reopened and only the sidewalk in front of 91 Wyndham St. remained closed.

There were no injuries to residents or emergency responders. Most residents were not home at the time of the fire. Some family pets were retrieved and returned to their owners. Victim Services and Red Cross were on scene to help the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation. Fire Prevention was contacted and did a preliminary investigation last evening. The investigation will continue today. A fire crew remained on scene throughout the night to monitor the building and remains on scene today.
