Guelph Police Weekend Report

Road rage

On January 30, 2016 the Guelph Police investigated a reported road rage incident. It is alleged that at approximately 8:10 p.m., a male was driving his car on Victoria Road when a Jeep Liberty in front of him, kept swerving and braking. Both vehicles came to a stop at the Victoria Road/Arkel Road intersection. The driver of the Jeep exited his vehicle and approached the complainant, grabbing him and pulling him out of his car. He then pushed him before getting back into the Jeep and leaving the area.

The vehicle is described as a gold Jeep Liberty with black rims.

The driver is described as a white male, approximately 45 years of age, 6’2” with a stocky build and dirty blonde short hair. He was wearing an orange shirt with white coloured pants.

Break and enter

On January 30, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Wilsonview Avenue apartment to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) cut the lock off a locker in the basement and stole sporting equipment. This is believed to have occurred sometime over the previous two weeks.

Theft from cars – arrest

On January 30, 2016 at 10:00 p.m., a male was observed going into vehicles on Norwich Street. Police were called and located the male on Woolwich Street where he was arrested. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered stolen property from the vehicles.

A 16-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000, breach YCJA probation and two counts of possession of stolen property. He will appear in court on February 10, 2016.

Break and enter

On January 31, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Speedvale Avenue West storage facility to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a storage unit and stole several items.

Impaired driver – arrest

On January 31, 2016 at 1:22 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle in the area of Imperial Road and Thornhill Drive. Police spoke with the male driver, determined he was impaired and he was arrested.

Travis Marshall, 24 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on February 12, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received five reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Elmira Road North, Davison Drive, University Avenue and two on Cassino Avenue.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Commercial motor vehicle enforcement

On January 29, 2016 member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit partnered with enforcement officers with the Ministry of Transportation to conduct commercial motor vehicle safety checks. Officers stopped and directed four commercial motor vehicles to a check point to be inspected. Following the inspections each of the four commercial vehicles were found to have safety deficiencies and were removed from service.

The Guelph Police Service is committed to road safety and would remind all drivers of commercial motor vehicles to be aware and abide by current regulations.

Collision behind school on College Avenue updated

On October 11, 2015 at 7:35 p.m., the Guelph Police received a call about a motor vehicle collision in the rear parking lot of College Heights School. On arrival, police located a Ford Mustang that had struck a tree. A Chevrolet Cobalt was also involved and parked a short distance away. The ‎vehicle that struck the tree had been driven by a 21-year-old Guelph male with a 17-year-old male passenger. The driver of this vehicle was trapped for almost two hours before emergency responders were able to extricate him. The driver was transported to the trauma unit in Hamilton by air ambulance with serious injuries. The passenger was transported to Guelph General Hospital with a possible head injury. The vehicle was demolished as a result of the collision.

The 21-year-old driver and 31-year-old occupant of the second vehicle were not injured in the collision. ‎There was no damage to this vehicle.

John Richmond, 22 years of Guelph has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle by street racing causing bodily harm. He will appear in court on March 4, 2016.

Brandon Grimmer, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle by street racing causing bodily harm. He will appear in court on March 15, 2016.
