- Impaired driver arrested
On April 4, 2015 at 2:52 p.m., the Guelph Police were called about a possible impaired driver on Woodlawn Road. Police located the female driver and vehicle shortly after and a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. She failed this test and was arrested.
Lyudmyla Novikova, 49 years of Toronto has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. She will appear in court on April 24, 2015.
2. Disturbance leads to arrest
On April 5, 2015 at 2:30 a.m., Guelph Police TRU went to a disturbance call at a downtown establishment. One male involved was found to be wanted on a warrant out of Guelph and he was arrested. During the arrest the male became combative and made threats to cause death to two officers.
Justin Leroux, 25 years of Guelph has been charged with assault to resist arrest, two counts of utter death threats and breach probation. He is also facing the charge of possession of property obtained by crime from the warrant. He will appear in court on April 7, 2015.
3. Man assaults bar staff – arrested
On April 5, 2015 at 2:00 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a downtown establishment to investigate a disturbance. It is alleged that an employee attempted to evict a male patron from the bar when the male began punching him in the face and head. Staff was able to remove the male and hold him for police who arrested him. The victim received minor injuries.
Cameron Pentsa, 21 years of Ayr has been charged with assault. He was also charged under the Trespass to Property Act with fail to leave premise when directed. He will appear in court on May 15, 2015.
4. Break and enter
On April 5, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Nottingham Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) pried open a rear window to gain entry sometime over the previous 24 hours. A theft of two laptops, a video camera and a photo camera are reported.

5. Male impersonates military police – arrested
On April 6, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a south end construction site and spoke with employees there. A male that was known to the construction employees had allegedly presented himself in a Canadian Forces Military Police uniform, bearing the rank of an officer. This male is not a member of the Canadian Forces.
A short investigation led to the arrest of the male and the recovery of military uniform equipment.
A 26-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of personate a peace officer, two counts of unlawful use of military uniform, one count of the use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence and one count of criminal harassment. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on April 7, 2015.
6. Speed blitz
Members of the High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) conducted a three day speed enforcement blitz between March 31 and April 2. Officers were proactively enforcing speed limits in problem areas in and around school zones during school hours. Over the three day period, police issued 37 Provincial Offence Notices for speed infractions. The highest recorded speed was a motorist exiting a school zone clocked at 83km/hr in a 50km/hr zone.
The city of Guelph has lowered speed limits in most school zones, which are clearly posted.
Police wish to remind motorists that the speed limit on city streets is 50km/hr unless otherwise posted. Now that the weather has turned more favorable, there are more cyclists and pedestrians using our roadways. Motorists are urged to slow down and be aware of their surroundings.
