Guelph Police Daily News Release – October 27, 2015

On October 26, 2015 the Guelph Police began an investigation into a reported robbery. It is alleged that on October 26, 2015 at 6:00 a.m., the male victim was waiting for a bus near the intersection of Paisley Street and Edinburgh Road North when a van pulled up. Two unknown males exited the vehicle and approached the victim, assaulted him and stole items from him before leaving the area. The victim was treated for minor injuries at Guelph General Hospital and released.

The suspects are described as stocky white males one of whom had a beard. No other descriptors are available.

The vehicle is described as an older Dodge Caravan dark grey in color.

Two vehicle collision

On October 26, 2015 at 5:45 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Elmira Road North for a two vehicle collision. It is alleged that a 2011 Ford Fusion was northbound on Elmira Road while a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was southbound on Elmira Road. The Chevrolet began to turn eastbound into a driveway forcing the Ford driver to take evasive actions. As a result, the Ford left the roadway and struck a hydro pole shearing it off at ground level. The hydro pole subsequently came to rest on top on the Ford while the driver exited with no injuries. The Ford was demolished as a result of the collision.

Elmira Road between Massey Road and Woodlawn Road was closed for over an hour while Guelph Hydro dealt with the downed hydro pole.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old Maryhill resident has been charged with turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act.

Minor injuries in two vehicle collision

On October 26, 2015 at 8:24 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision at the intersection of Eastview Road and Watson Parkway North. It is alleged that a 2001 Honda Civic was southbound approaching the intersection while a 2013 GMC Sienna was westbound on Eastview Road. The GMC continued through the intersection failing to yield the right of way to the Honda and as a result the Honda collided with the GMC.

The driver of the Honda was treated by ambulance and taken to the Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the GMC, a 19-year-old Guelph resident has been charged with fail to yield to traffic on a through highway under the Highway Traffic Act.

The total damages were estimated at $11,000.

Break and enter

On October 26, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Scottsdale Drive business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) smashed a window to gain entry sometime overnight. A theft of alcohol is reported.
