Two youths arrested
On November 30, 2015 at 1:42 a.m., the Guelph Police were on general patrol in the area of Metro on Edinburgh Road South and observed two male youths that ran when they noticed the cruiser. Police located the males and discovered that they were both breaching court imposed conditions and they were arrested. Further investigation determined that they were responsible for a transportation fraud that had occurred earlier when they took a cab to the University of Guelph and then ran off without paying.
A 16-year-old Brampton male has been charged with transportation fraud, two counts of breach of recognizance and two counts of breach of YCJA probation.
A 15-year-old Brampton male has been charged with transportation fraud, breach of recognizance and two counts of breach of OIC undertaking.
They were both held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 30, 2015.
Assault charge laid
On November 29, 2015 at 12:51 a.m., the Guelph Police were flagged down by staff at an establishment on Woodlawn Road West. A female had been asked to leave but refused and then assaulted a staff member. Police arrested her at the scene.
Jessica-Rai Ivany, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with assault. She will appear in court on January 5, 2016.
Disturbance downtown leads to arrest
On November 29, 2015 at 12:56 a.m., the Guelph Police observed a disturbance in front of an establishment on Macdonell Street. Police assisted what turned out to be bar staff trying to restrain a male. After a brief struggle with police the male was arrested.
James Berry, 20 years of Guelph has been charged with cause a disturbance by fighting and resist arrest. He will appear in court on January 5, 2016.
Break and enter
On November 29, 2015 at 10:50 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Speedvale Avenue East residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through the rear door sometime overnight and stole a two TB hard drive.

On November 29, 2015 at 8:58 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Kensington Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight and stole a gardening tool.

R.I.D.E.
On November 28/29, 2015 between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. In total, 390 vehicles were checked by officers with nine roadside screening tests being administered. All nine drivers registered alcohol but were found to be within the legal limit.
Police also encountered several individuals who had a designated driver or planned for a safe ride home prior to going out for the evening.
Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that during the holiday season they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.
Assault charge laid
On November 28, 2015 at 12:28 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Mason Court for the report of an assault. It is alleged that an intoxicated female assaulted a male friend. The male had minor injuries from the assault but did not require medical attention. Police arrested the female at the scene.
Cindy Loewen, 34 years of Cambridge has been charged with assault and breach of probation. She will appear in court on November 30, 2015.
Drug charges
On November 28, 2015 at 2:25 p.m., the Guelph Police were in W.E. Hamilton Park and observed an alleged drug transaction. Police approached two of the involved people sitting on a park bench. Investigation discovered they were in possession of Marihuana and they were both arrested.
Michale Longpre, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in court on December 22, 2015.
Megan Bell, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of Judges undertaking. She will appear in court on December 15, 2015.
Pedestrian struck
On November 27, 2015 at 11:59 p.m., the Guelph Police were dispatched to a pedestrian/motor vehicle collision at the dead end at Silvercreek Parkway South. It is alleged that a blue two door Hyundai Accent was south bound on Silvercreek Parkway South and struck a male pedestrian walking on the roadway. A 22-year-old male was transported to Hamilton General Hospital in stable condition with serious injuries. The driver, a 20-year-old male, was transported to Guelph General Hospital and was subsequently released. The motor vehicle sustained substantial front end damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Speeder charged
On November 27, 2015 at 6:07 a.m., the Guelph Police were doing speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West. A motor vehicle travelling east bound on Woodlawn between Elmira Road and Imperial Road was clocked at 125 km/hour in the marked 60 km/hour zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the male driver was charged with drive motor vehicle stunt – more than 50 km over the speed limit and speeding under the Highway Traffic Act. With the stunt driving charge the vehicle was also impounded for seven days and the driver received a seven day driving licence suspension.
Property damage
On November 27, 0215 at 5:12 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Victoria Road North Residence for the report of property damage. It is alleged that a male had come onto their property and smashed their front window with a rock. He is described as approximately 5’8” wearing a black jacket with a hoody and jeans.

Fraud arrest
On November 27, 2015 at 11:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a business on Gordon Street for the report of a male trying to cash stolen cheques. The cheques had been reported stolen from a car earlier in the morning. Police located the male a short distance away from the business and he was arrested. During the investigation, the male identified to police with what was found to be a false name and a search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of Crystal Meth.
Ryan Smith, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, fraud under $5,000, obstruct peace officer, two counts of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on November 30, 2015.
Theft from cars – arrests made
On November 27, 2015 at 8:30 a.m., a resident on McArthur Drive noticed that their vehicle had been entered and items stolen. They then noticed a male and female in the area and called police. The two were located by police on Clair Road. Investigation lead to both being arrested. A search subsequent to their arrest discovered items stolen from vehicles on McArthur Drive, Duck Lane, Dominion Drive as well as items reported stolen from Ridgewood Drive two nights earlier.
Jeffrey Currie, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of possession of stolen property and breach of recognizance. He will appear in court on November 30, 2015.
Alyssa Tarnawski, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of stolen property and breach of probation. She will appear in court on November 30, 2015.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Lynch Circle, Jackson Street, Wyndham Street North, two on Clair Road East and two on Wimbledon Road.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
