Guelph Police Daily News Release – December 11, 2105

Suspicious Activity Leads to Arrest

On December 10, 2015 at 12:30pm a male carrying a knapsack was in the Provincial Court building behaving suspiciously. Court security spoke to him to ensure there was no danger to the public. As a result of this investigation, a 45 year old Guelph male is now facing the following charges: four counts of possession of a controlled substance and breaching his order of recognizance. The male was held for a bail hearing.

Two Males Arrested on Outstanding Warrants from a November Incident

On November 10, 2015 Guelph Police were called to a department store in the north end of the city, where there was a theft in progress. Suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle. As police arrived, officers were able to locate the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled but police did not pursue for reasons of public safety.

Police continued to investigate and were able to identify the suspects in this incident, subsequently issuing warrants for their arrest. On December 10, 2015 an eighteen year old male was arrested for theft under $5000 and a 20 year old Kitchener male was arrested for theft under $5000, flight from police, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, breaching his probation and using licence plates, not authorized for the vehicle. Both males were arrested by the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Both males were held for a bail hearing.

Drive over 80 mg – arrest

On December 10, 2015 at 8:30pm., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Speedvale Avenue East. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed to provide a sample and was arrested.

Paul Schnurr, 51 years of has been charged with fail to provide sample. He will appear in court on January 13, 2016.

Theft Arrest

On December 10, 2015 at 4:21pm a male was seen stealing an item from a north end department store. Security attempted to detain this male and he fled on foot. Security pursued and contacted Guelph Police. After a brief chase, the male was arrested and the property returned.

Dustin Whealy, a 26 year old Guelph male, was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000. He has a January 22, 2016 court date.

Commercial Break and enters

On December 10, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Victoria Road business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered two trailers sometime overnight, taking clothes and shoes.

On December 10, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Edinburgh Road South business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered by smashing the front door in the early morning hours. Suspect(s) took multiple computers and fled.
