On August 9, 2015 at 12:41 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Gordon Street residence near downtown for an incident that occurred overnight. Investigation alleges that two male roommates were involved and at approximately 1:00 a.m., one of the males brandished a knife and demanded the victim give him his debit card. The card was not turned over but the male told the victim to stay in his room. The male then damaged property and discharged a fire extinguisher within the home. The male had left prior to police being called.
On August 10, 2015 at 7:09 p.m., the male was located and arrested.
A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with attempt robbery, mischief under $5,000, forcible confinement and two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on August 11, 2015.
Impaired driver – arrest
On August 10, 2015 at 7:20 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a car that had been driven across a front yard and was driving on Stevenson Street North. Police located the vehicle parked on Lane Street but witnesses directed police to the female driver walking on Stevenson Street. Police spoke to the female and determined that she had been drinking alcohol and she was arrested. At the Guelph Police station she refused to provide a sample of her breath. Further investigation alleges that she had been involved in a collision on Speedvale Avenue East where a guard wire had been struck but she left the scene.
Michelle Brennenstuhl, 29 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving, refuse to provide a breath sample and fail to remain. She will appear in court on August 25, 2015.
Theft from cars
On August 10, 2015 the Guelph Police received six reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Vista Terrace, Wyndham Street South, Stone Road West, Hilltop Road, Wilton Road and Cassino Avenue.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
