On January 30, 2017 at 2:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Essex Street to investigate a male who was caught inside a motor vehicle by its owner. The male was still on scene when police arrived. Police located a wallet that had been removed from the car on the suspect male and he was arrested.
Continued investigation determined that the male was also a suspect from a theft from car on January 16, 2017 on Dumbarton Street. In that incident a wallet containing credit cards and an I-phone were stolen and credit cards were then used.
Barry Robert, 33 years of Guelph has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, 2 counts theft of credit card and 2 counts use stolen credit card.
Cab driver assaulted
Just after midnight on January 28th, a Guelph area cab picked up a male on Macdonell St and after making a stop on the way, drove him to an address on Chancellor’s Way in Guelph. While paying the outstanding fare, the man assaulted the cab driver and ran off. The cab driver received injuries that did not require medical attention.
The suspect is described as white, 5’4” to 5’6” in height, 21 to 25 years of age, muscular build, no jacket, pants and short sleeved shirt, round face, clean shaven, with short blond hair.

British currency taken in break-in
On the afternoon of January 27th, a resident of a Cardigan Street apartment returned home to find that someone had broken into his apartment and stolen his wallet which contained a large quantity of British pound notes.

Vehicle Collisions
Over the weekend Guelph Police investigated eight vehicle collisions that involved property damage.
There was a three car collision on Stone Road that involved three vehicles where one of the drivers sustained minor injuries.
Theft from vehicles
There were nine vehicles reported entered on Essex Street, Sandcreek Lane, Water Street, Woolwich Street, Starview Crescent and Edinburgh Road. Hockey sticks, money, wallets and personal papers were some of the things reported taken.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Traffic enforcement
The traffic numbers over the weekend show that 111 vehicles were stopped for traffic infractions and 75 Highway Traffic Act charges were laid.
