Guelph Police Daily News Release – 27Oct2016

On October 27, 2016 the Guelph Police investigated two gunpoint robberies. The first occurred at12:06 a.m., two males entered the Gas Bar on Imperial Road South and robbed the store clerk of cash and cigarettes at gunpoint. Then at 12:09 a.m., two suspects entered the convenience store on Paisley Road North and robbed the lone clerk of cash and cigarettes at gun point. The locations are directly across the street from one another and the robberies are believed to be related. There is no further information at this time as the police investigation is ongoing. Further updates will be made as information becomes available.

Break and enter

On October 26, 2016 at 3:48 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Teal Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the home by smashing a rear window. A theft of cash is reported.

Break and enter

On October 26, 2016 at 10:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a McElderry Road residence to investigate a break and enter. The resident found two males in his garage and he chased them out. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the males. The two are described as 20-30 years and one was wearing grey sweat pants. No theft is reported.

Fight downtown leads to drug charge

On October 26, 2016 at 12:15 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Wyndham Street and Quebec Street downtown for the report of two males fighting. Police arrived and separated the two. Investigation discovered that one male had a quantity of Marihuana on him and he was arrested. The other male was released and sent on his way.

Zakary Restivo, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on December 9, 2016.

Single car collision – impaired driver arrested

On October 26, 2016 at 10:44 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Ptarmigan Drive for the report that a motor vehicle struck a pole. Police located and spoke with the male driver, determined him to be impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

Dylan Dodington, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on November 22, 2016.

Theft from cars

On October 26, 2016 the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Raymond Street, Boulder Crescent, Niska Road and Starview Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Bicycle’s stolen

Eleven more stolen bikes were reported on October 26, 2016 taken from residential and commercial properties in Guelph. The locations were Cork Street West, Johnston Street, Glasgow Street North, Meyer Drive, Gordon Street, Morris Street, Victoria Road North, Gosling Gardens (2 bikes), Highview Place and Wellington Street East. Many of the bikes were locked and the locks were cut.

Bike theft continues to be an ongoing concern. Heavy duty locks for bikes even when indoors gives you the best protection against theft.

Police incidents over the last 24 hours

The Guelph Police were involved in 189 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
