Recently, people have begun receiving emails advising they have a traffic violation. The email implies the victim has been issued a fine, following a supposed traffic infringement that requires immediate payment and asks you to click a link to view the fine. The fines range in the hundreds. If you receive an email like this, the Guelph Police urge you to not pay the fees, do not click the links and delete the email.

Break and enter
On November 22, 2016 at 11:11 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Surrey Street East apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through the unlocked front door and stole a laptop.

Break and enter
On November 23, 2016 at 2:03 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Home Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The tenant of the basement apartment awoke when an unknown man opened their bedroom door. He left as soon as he saw the resident. No theft is reported.
The only description is that he wore a large jacket with hood and jeans.

Traffic stop – arrest
On November 22, 2016 at 9:32 a.m., members of the Guelph Police High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) were on patrol on Victoria Road and observed a female known to them to be a suspended driver, driving a motor vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and she was arrested. A subsequent search discovered small amounts of Marihuana, Hashish, Crystal Meth, 1 Morphine pill, 3 unknown pills and an identity card in another person’s name.
Pauline Kelly, 50 years of Guelph has been charged with breach of probation, breach of recognizance, possession of identity document and five counts of possession of a controlled substance. She was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension. She will appear in court on November 23, 2016.
Theft from cars
On November 22, 2016 the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Riverview Drive, Goodwin Drive, Cedar Street and Emslie Street.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Launch of 2016 Festive R.I.D.E. Campaign
Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Guelph Police Service (GPS) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving Wellington County (MADD) will officially launch the “2016 local Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign” on November 23, 2016. RIDE lanes will be set up between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at various locations. The local County of Wellington and City of Guelph campaign aligns with the annual Provincial Festive RIDE initiative in which all police services participate. Media is welcome to attend.
