Guelph Police Daily News Release

Police cruiser damaged, impaired driver arrested

1. On March 27, 2015, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an address on Marksam Road for a theft of vehicle call. Police were provided with a vehicle description, possible destination of travel and were advised that the driver was possibly intoxicated.

At 11:36 p.m., police located the vehicle on Paisley Road and a traffic stop was conducted. The vehicle stopped and then reversed, striking the cruiser. Police attempted to arrest the driver and he fled on foot. The male was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Joshua Biffis, 32 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, drive over 80 mgs, fail to remain, resist arrest and driving while under suspension x 2. He is to appear in court on May 5, 2015.

The involved vehicle and cruiser received minor damages totaling approximately $2,500 and no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

2. 52 km/h over speed limit while impaired, driver arrested

On March 29, 2015 at 12:02 a.m., the Guelph Police observed a brown Chevrolet Malibu travelling southbound on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue at a speed of 102km/h in a 50km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the male driver was arrested.

Ryan KIRLEY, 22 years of Guelph, has been charged with impaired driving, drive over 80, racing a motor vehicle, speeding, and drive motor vehicle with open liquor. He will appear in court on April 14, 2015.

3. Break and enter

On March 29, 2015 at 9:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a St. Arnaud Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked door. A large television has been reported stolen.

4. Alert for Guelph businesses

The Guelph Police have continued to receive reports of counterfeit US currency being distributed at businesses within Guelph. This is a common occurrence throughout the province and businesses should always be on the alert for fraudulent bills. However, with the recent reports, we ask businesses to take extra precautions when accepting bills, especially US currency. When in doubt, you can refuse to take the bill or call police to assist.
