Guelph Police Daily News Release – 19April2017

Man lying on roadway charged

Just before 9am on April 18th, a man walked out onto the roadway at Wyndham Street and Macdonell Street and laid down. Cars using the roadway were forced to stop to avoid him and some drivers took the time to get out and offer assistance to him. The man grew agitated and when police arrived they immediately recognized the male who had been previously cautioned numerous times on this behavior.

Gordon Harris, a 47 year old Guelph man, was arrested and charged with mischief, causing a disturbance and further charged with possession of a controlled substance when marihuana was found on his person. He was later released to appear in court at a later date.

Fraud arrest

Alert Loss Prevention Officers at a Stone Road business contacted police on the afternoon of April 18th when they recognized two males believed to be responsible for a number of thefts at other chain stores across the province. The two males split up, left the store and the LPO’s followed the males while police were on the way.

When police arrived they were able to stop and investigate one of the males who provided identification that was not his own. The 37 year old Brampton man was arrested and is charged with obstruct police, breach of recognizance, identity fraud, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of possession of identity documents. He was held in custody and is to appear in bail court.

Break and enters

Sometime overnight on April 18th, an unknown suspect(s) cut through the yard fence of an Elizabeth Street business. At this time it is unknown what property was taken and police are investigating.

-It is believed that an unknown suspect(s) entered a Woodlawn Road home through doors that were left unlocked between 6pm -10pm on April 18th. Jewelry was reported stolen from inside.

-Sometime overnight on April 18th, unknown suspects entered an unlocked shed in the back yard of a Dufferin Street home and took two TREK bicycles. One was black and orange in color and the other was black and blue.
