On 17 / 18 March 2016 between the hours of 10:00pm and 3:00am the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 485 vehicles were checked by officers with 5 roadside screening tests being administered. 2 of the 5 drivers tested, a 27 year old female from Arkell and a 21 year old male from Mississauga registered alerts and were issued 3 day drivers licence suspensions. The other 3 drivers were found to be within the legal limit to operate their vehicles.
A 19 year old Guelph male, that entered the RIDE lane, was found to be a suspended driver. RIDE officers also had a five passenger vehicle enter the RIDE lanes that was occupied by 9 people. 4 of the occupants were issued tickets for not wearing their seatbelts.
Several vehicles that entered the RIDE lanes were found to have designated drivers.
Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that they continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.
St. Patrick’s Day Co-ordinated Police Response
As has been the practice over the past several years, the Guelph Police Service participated in a proactive approach to the annual day of celebration by working in partnership with several community partners including; the City of Guelph, Guelph By-law, Guelph Transit, University of Guelph, Off Campus Living, University Campus Police, Liquor Inspector, Guelph Wellington Emergency Medical Services and Guelph Fire Department, to name a few.
Numerous officers were deployed in an enforcement and high impact patrol capacity to ensure a safe and respectful celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Road Rage
On March 17, 2016 at 5:17 pm, Guelph Police Service received a 911 call from a driver who was being followed by a male in a pick-up truck. The male in the pickup truck was waving a baseball bat at him. The pickup driver tried to run the 911 caller off the road. Guelph Police officers located the responsible pick-up driver, a 24 year old Guelph male, who was subsequently arrested. The male will appear in court on May 3rd, 2016 to answer to the charge of dangerous driving.
