Guelph Police Daily News Release – 17May2016

On May 16, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., the Guelph Police were called to Cash Money on Gordon Street to assist with a male trying to cash a cheque, believed to be fraudulent. Information was received that the cheque had been stolen on May 12, 2016 and the owner did not know this male. Police located the man, he was arrested and the subsequent search discovered two more cheques from the same owner as the first.

A 35-year-old Guelph man has been charged with three counts of utter forged document, attempt fraud under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 17, 2016.

Break and enter – update

On May 16, 2016 at 3:00 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Macdonell Street business to investigate a break and enter. The complainant observed a female enter the business and leave with an armful of items wrapped in a blanket.

Investigation determined that the cash register from the business had been taken.

Police identified the female and on May 17, 2016 at 12:30 a.m., she was arrested.

A 19-year-old Guelph female has been charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property and breach of OIC undertaking. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 17, 2016.

Fire investigation

On May 16, 2016 at 3:37 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Silvercreek Parkway North residence to assist the Guelph Fire Department (GFD). GFD had put out a small fire at the residence, the cause of which seemed suspicious in nature. The investigation is ongoing.

Break and enter

On May 16, 2016 at 7:04 a.m., the Guelph Police went to an Elizabeth Street construction area to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a trailer sometime overnight and stole tools.
