Guelph Police Daily News Release – 16Mar2016

On March 15, 2016 Guelph Police were notified that a female was attempting to purchase items with a fraudulent credit card in the north end. Investigation revealed the victim and female suspect are known to each other. The suspect had been successful in making several purchases fraudulently. Police located and arrested an 18 year old Guelph woman and charged her with three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, five counts of possession of identity documents and possession of stolen property. She has been held for a bail hearing.

Theft from cars

On March 15, 2016 the Guelph Police received eight reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were all in the area of downtown Guelph. Various items from cash, CDs to a wallet were taken.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Police incidents in the last 24 hours

The Guelph Police were involved in 226 incidents in the past 24 hours. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.

Guelph Police Remind St. Patrick Day Revelers to Do So Safely and Respectfully

The Guelph Police Service once again is aligned with community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of all persons and property during St. Patrick Day celebrations through a coordinated response and community awareness.

The police are offering the following as reminders and are encouraging those who are celebrating to plan ahead by;

• Drinking responsibly and do not drink and drive

• Pedestrians should cross at designated locations

• Motorists should be extra cautious of pedestrians on the roads

• Do not leave drinks unattended at public bars or events

• Plan to arrive home safely

• If you do see an impaired driver or suspect someone may drive impaired, call 911

Being actively involved in St. Patrick’s Day the Guelph Police will be live-tweeting from various locations. The tweets will include safety tips, crowd management information, enforcement efforts and a community contact. Community members can access the tweets by following #safestpattys. As part of the safety planning for the day Police will be patrolling on foot, and in cars and will be concentrating on keeping the peace in our downtown core and our south end community.

Additionally, officers will be assisting with the execution of the St. Patrick’s Day operational plan and an active R.I.D.E. program will be implemented throughout the city.

• No charges laid in relation to unlawfully selling liquor.

• 6 Charges for Public Intoxication
