Guelph Police Daily News Release – 15May2017

On May 14, 2017 a male was seen attempting to enter vehicles in the Baker Street parking lot. Police were able to locate and arrest the male. In his possession were some items that officers believe were stolen from other vehicles. Among these items are various foreign coins in pouches as well as a key with a fob and tag on it.

The 34 year old from Guelph was charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation. He was held pending a bail hearing today.

Drug complaint investigated

Early this month Guelph Police Service High School Resource Officers and the High Enforcement Action Team began a joint investigation after receiving complaints about drug activity at a plaza near-by John F Ross Collegiate. On May 12, 2017 while investigating the complaints, police observed a male sell marihuana to a 15 year old female and the two were subsequently arrested.

The 15 year old was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released. Christopher Ferguson, 18 years of age from Rockwood, was arrested for trafficking in a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance (marihuana). He appeared in bail court over the weekend and was released to appear back before the court on May 30, 2017

Suspicious male arrested

Over the dinner hour on May 14th, police were called to an address on Elizabeth Street when two men were seen damaging an outdoor shed. When police arrived they located the two males that were walking away from the property. Investigation led to the arrest of one of the men. Once arrested, the male was searched and found to be in possession of a quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine as well as other property that did not belong to him.

The 34 year old from Guelph is charged with possession of a controlled substance, three counts of breach of recognizance, breach of undertaking and breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Damage to Carden Street building

At approximately 7:30pm on May 12th, video equipment at a Carden Street building recorded a male, well known to the superintendent there, intentionally smashing two lobby lights with a basketball. A short while later that same male was found by police walking down Gordon street bouncing the basketball and he was arrested for mischief.

The 35 year old Guelph man was charged with mischief and an additional four counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

LCBO alerts police to impaired driver

On the afternoon of May 13th, staff at a Guelph LCBO outlet contacted police after a man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol came into a store to purchase alcohol. The staff refused to serve the man who then left the store, got into a Pontiac Grand Prix and drove away. Police were contacted and located the vehicle on Cedar Street. When the vehicle was stopped, observations by the officer led to the male driver being arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver was transported to the station where he failed subsequent testing and was further charged with drive over .08mgs.

David Donabie, 41 years of age from Guelph, was later released to appear in court at a later date.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend there six vehicles reported entered on Leacock Avenue, Waterloo Avenue, Fountain Street, Schroder Crescent, Fletcher Court and Rosewood Avenue. A GPS unit, a leather jacket and small change were among some of the property taken.

This crime can generally be avoided by being diligent about locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
