On January 27, 2017, the Guelph Police Service commenced an investigation into allegations against a 64 year old Guelph man in relation to offences against children. On March 3, 2017, Leigh Taylor, was arrested and charged by the Guelph Police Service for one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
As a result of further investigation, Leigh Taylor was arrested again on May 30, 2017 and June 11, 2017 at which time twelve more charges were laid involving four additional victims. These additional charges include five counts of sexual assault, sexual interference, three counts of exposure to a person under 16 years and three counts of indecent acts.
The charges related to this investigation occurred from incidents that occurred in the Guelph jurisdiction but the accused has also resided in several other areas within Ontario, including but not limited to, Windsor, London and Toronto. Leigh Taylor has been involved in a number of community activities that involved children and youth. The investigation continues as there is no statute of limitations on crimes of this nature.

Cyclist struck
Just before 9am on Tuesday June 13, 2017, a cyclist travelling northbound on Watson Parkway North at Eastview road was struck by a silver Mazda Suv attempting to cross eastbound.
The cyclist sustained head injuries which were not considered not to be life threatening, thanks in part to wearing an approved helmet, and was transported to Guelph General hospital.
The driver of the Mazda, a 36 year old Guelph male, was charged with fail to yield under the Highway Traffic Act.

Stolen van causes accident
On Monday, June 12, 2017 at approximately 1:15pm, a white Ford minivan was stolen from the front of a residence on Roland St, Guelph. Shortly after the white Ford minivan was stolen, it was observed to be travelling all over the road eastbound on Bristol Street. The white Ford minivan ran a stop sign at the Bristol Street and Edinburgh Road South intersection. As a result, a red Hyundai sedan travelling northbound on Edinburgh Road South struck the white Ford minivan on the passenger side, subsequently forcing the white Ford minivan into a parked grey Ford pickup truck. The driver of the stolen white Ford minivan attempted to flee the scene of the collision on foot without making any attempt to check on anyone involved in the collision. However, Police were able to catch the driver after a brief foot pursuit. The white Ford minivan and the red Hyundai sedan were demolished due to the collision. The driver of the red Hyundai sedan was transported to the Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A 20 year old female from Guelph was charged with motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop at the scene of an accident, resist arrest, obstruct peace officer, mischief under $5000, breach of probation (2 counts), possession of a controlled substance, drive motor vehicle – no licence, disobey stop sign – fail to stop, and driver fail to give identification. She was held in custody to appear in bail court.
