On September 9, 20016 the Guelph Police Traffic Unit, with the assistance of members from the Uniform Division wrapped up the first week of our back to school safety initiative. The campaign titled “Give the Kids a Brake” focused on speeding and moving related traffic violations. Each day last week officers patrolled specific neighborhoods to address community safety concerns. A total of 141 Provincial Offence Notices were issued to drivers for offences including speeding, disobeying stops signs and distracted driving.
Additional road safety campaigns will continue over the upcoming weeks. Remember to slow down in the school zones and obey the rules of the road.
Cyclist/vehicle collision
On September 12, 2016 at approximately 3:14 p.m., the Guelph Police responded to an incident on Stone Road West, in front of the Sears at Stone Road Mall. Police attended and spoke to a cyclist who received minor injuries. It is not believed that there was actual contact between the cyclist and vehicle. The involved vehicle may have been a black truck with attached trailer that was last seen westbound on Stone Road.

Break and enter
On September 12, 2016 at 9:19 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Marilyn Drive apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the laundry rooms on each floor and stole money from the machines.

Property damage
On September 12, 2016 at 9:11 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Sir Isaac Brock Public School on Colonial Drive for the report of property damage. Sometime over the weekend playground equipment was damaged. Numerous empty alcohol containers and cigarettes were also littered on the playground.

Theft from cars
On September 12, 2016 the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Victoria Road South, Murphy Court, Norma Crescent and Brant Avenue.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. In the area of Victoria Road/Greenview Street from 11:22 a.m. – 12:11 p.m. – 1 ticket issued.
In the area of Edinburgh Road/Wilsonview Avenue from 6:38 p.m. – 8:04 p.m. – 9 ticket issued.
