Guelph Police Daily News Release – 12Jan2017

Building resident charged for breaking into another apartment

On the afternoon of January 11th, the police were called to a Carden Street apartment to investigate a break-in that occurred the previous day. The resident there reported that his front door had been forced open, things were taken and damage was done inside the apartment.

The investigation led police to a 19 year old female from another apartment in the building who was responsible. Sandra Critch was arrested for break and enter, theft and mischief. She was released to appear before the court on February 14, 2017.

Motor vehicle collisions

Police responded to seven motor vehicle collisions in the city yesterday where driving conditions changed over the course of the day when the temperatures dipped low enough to cause some freezing. Charges were laid at three of the collisions.

One of those collisions involved a single vehicle that lost control and ended up rolling over on Edinburgh Road. The driver received some minor injuries and took himself to the hospital.

Don’t be taken by surprise by the weather temperatures that appear to be very mild during the daytime hours. There has been significant rainfall for this time of year and when the temperatures hover around the freezing point, side streets that don’t have a steady flow of traffic often develop icy driving conditions for drivers turning off the busier roadways that do not.

Fraud investigation leads to arrest

The Guelph Police Service entered into an investigation in February of 2016 surrounding the theft of stolen cheques from a mailbox and the subsequent deposit of the cheques. Investigation revealed that the cheques had been deposited and withdrawals made from a 44 year-old Guelph man’s account. While this occurrence was under investigation, another report came to police’s attention where the same male was impersonating a bank account holder and fraudulently withdrawing funds from the account.

Joseph ANNIS was arrested on January 11, 2017 for, fraud under $5000, uttering forged documents, theft under $5000.00 and identity fraud. He was released and will appear in Guelph court on February 14, 2017.

On January 11, 2017 the Guelph Police Service were involved in 198 incidents.
