On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Guelph Police Traffic Unit was monitoring traffic on Speedvale Ave East in the City of Guelph. At approx. 6:58pm, a 2017 silver Kia OLX was found to be travelling 116 km/h in a posted 60km/h zone. A 22 year old female from Cambridge was charged with Speeding – 116km/h in a 60 km/h zone, racing a motor vehicle, and fail to surrender driver’s licence. The vehicle being driven was impounded for a period of seven days and the driver’s licence was seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
Downtown fight leads to arrest
At approximately 7:10pm on March 9th a fight broke out between two patrons at a Quebec Street establishment and when staff stepped into break up the fight, a knife was seen and police were called. Police arrived and found the two men had separated and neither one was injured. The two men were not very cooperative with police and investigation led to one of the male being arrested.
A 33 year old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous to the public peace and five counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court later today.
Guns left in vehicles
At approximately 9:40pm on March 9th, City of Guelph By-law Enforcement Officers contacted the Guelph Police Service when they came across a parked vehicle on Janefield Avenue with two guns visible inside. Police continue to investigate after they arrived and seized a long rifle and a shotgun from inside the vehicle.
