Theft from vehicle suspect arrested after using stolen credit cards
On the morning of January 9th, a Dimson Avenue homeowner came to the station to report the theft a wallet from their vehicle overnight. Later in the day a credit card from the wallet was used to purchase merchandise at five different businesses in the city.
From the video at these businesses, police were able to identify the well-known 25 year-old man from Guelph who had just been released from custody over the weekend for other criminal charges.
Just after 4pm, this male was seen by officers walking in the downtown core and was arrested for another nine additional charges of possession of stolen property, using stolen credit cards and breach of probation.
He was held in custody to appear in bail court today.
Dumpster fire
At approximately 6pm on January 9th police and fire responded to a fire in a garbage dumpster on Scottsdale Drive. The fire was contained to the dumpster and extinguished. Police and fire will continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

Break and Enter
A Fountain Street business reported that sometime overnight on January 9th an unknown person(s) broke into the building and took three laptop computers and some change. There were no visible signs of forced entry and police continue to investigate.

Collisions
Police responded to four collisions on the 9th and one of them involved a car and a cyclist on Woodlawn Road. The cyclist received some minor injuries and was charged for riding in a crosswalk.
As licensed drivers, we all recognize the need to share the roadway safely with bicycles, but once the snowy and slippery road conditions start, this is sometimes difficult to do safely. For all cyclist who make use of their bikes in the winter, please consider all your transportation options and get to your destination safely. There may be times when riding your bike in some conditions is not the best decision. Ride smart and ride safe.
