Guelph Police Daily News Release – 10April2017

Three arrested at correctional facility

Security staff at the decommissioned correctional facility on York Road observed three people on internal video equipment inside the building in the evening hours of April 7th and contacted police. An extensive search of the facility located the three people who were arrested.

Joseph Hawkins, 24 years of age and Kimberly Osmond 20 years of age, both from Guelph, are charged with break and enter and were released to appear in court on May 26, 2017.

The third person is a 25 year old man from Guelph who was also charged with break and enter and an additional charge of breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Proactive building checks lead to arrest

In the early morning hours of April 8th, police were performing property checks at a Carden Street building in response to increasing problems from non-residents in the stairwells there. During the walk-through, police located an 18 year old male that was in breach of release conditions from outstanding criminal charges. He was arrested and a search discovered that he was in possession of a substance that is believed to be crystal methamphetamine.

Cody Allison of Guelph appeared in bail court over the weekend, charged with three counts of breach of recognizance and possession of a controlled substance. He was released with a future court of April 25, 2017.

Male identified from theft

On April 2nd and 3rd, there were thefts reported at an LCBO where the suspect was captured on video.

On April 5, 2017 that same male was also captured on video causing damage to computer equipment at the Guelph Public Library.

That male was later identified by police as Jake Gamble, a 23 year old resident of Guelph who located on the afternoon of April 8th as he was seen in the area of Quebec Street. He was arrested and charged with two counts of theft and mischief to property. He was later released to appear in court on April 18, 2017.

Man located stealing from cars

Just before 7am on April 8th, police received a description of a male that was seen going into a parked pick-up truck on Janefield Avenue and take items from inside. When police arrived to search the area, they located the male and he was arrested. During the subsequent search of the male, property from the pick-up and other property also believed to be stolen was found.

Kennedy Clark, an 18 year old from Guelph was charged with theft under $5000.00, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of break in instruments. He was later released to appear in court on May 23, 2017.

Second arrest in theft from cars attempt

At approximately 1:30am, a resident on Western Avenue and two of his friends watched a group of three people that were going down the street and checking for open cars in neighborhood driveways. The resident and two of his friends called police and gave chase after the males. With help of the resident and his friends, all three were located by police who arrived in the area quickly.

One of the males was Cole Pinson, 18 years old from Guelph, who was located in the back yard of a property on Ridgewood Avenue and arrested for trespassing by night. He was also charged with two underage drinking offences and released to appear in court on May 12, 2017.

Damage at Via Station

Staff from the Via Rail station contacted police in the early morning hours of April 9th, when they discovered that fibre optic cable had been cut from the building but was left behind. It is believed that the suspect(s) may have mistaken the cable as copper wiring that can easily scraped for money and when they realized it wasn’t, they left it behind.

At this time it is unknown the exact value of the damaged cables, but may reach as high $50,000.00. Police continue to investigate.
