Guelph Police Daily News Release 04Dec2017

Additional suspect located

It was previously reported that on November 29th, police executed a search warrant at a Waterloo Avenue address as a result of suspicious activities in the neighborhood. There were three persons apprehended and charged as a result of this project.

On December 4th, just after midnight, a fourth person who was being sought by police in regards to this incident, was seen in the downtown area on a bicycle. He fled on the bicycle when he was approached by police, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

The 29 year old Guelph man was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking and breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Disturbance arrest

At approximately 2:20am on December 2nd, police attended to a disturbance at north-end between a group of people that were familiar with each other. Investigation revealed that one of the persons involved was bound to abide by release conditions from a criminal charge from Hamilton.

Phoenix Erica Dyer a 19 year old from Millgrove, Ontario was charged with breach of undertaking and was later released to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Traffic stop locates wanted man

On the afternoon of December 1st, a traffic officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Edinburgh Road and Gordon Street and additional investigation revealed that the 42 year old male driver from Hamilton was wanted on an outstanding warrant by the Hamilton Police Service for assault and sexual assault. The male was apprehended and given over to the HPS to be dealt with in that jurisdiction.

Vehicle collisions

Over the weekend police responded to 12 vehicle collisions including the stolen vehicle mentioned above. No injuries were reported in any of these collisions.

Impaired driver

On the evening of December 2nd, a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback became stuck off the roadway in the ditch after the female driver attempted to make a U-turn in the area of Speedvale Avenue and Elmira Road. Police were called and the vehicle was still stuck when police arrived. When the driver was spoken to, it appeared her ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol and there was also a partially consumed container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Angela Shiry, a 54 year old Kitchener resident was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor and operate a motor vehicle- over.08mgs. She was later released to appear in a Guelph court at a later date.

Suspicious person

Just after 5am on December 1st, police were alerted to a male that appeared to be breaking into a building on Meyer Drive. When police arrived, they located a male that was taking lumber from the property. The male was arrested and found to be in possession of a quantity of marihuana and methamphetamine.

Twenty-nine year old Stephan Piche of Guelph was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of a controlled substance. He was later released to appear in court on December 29, 2017.

Calls for service

Over the course of the weekend, the Guelph Police Service responded to 599 calls for service.
