Guelph Police Daily News Release 03Jan2018

On January 2, 2018 at approximately 6am, Guelph police were called to the Guelph General Hospital, where there was a report of a disturbance. Police arrived and arrested a male that was assaultive towards staff. It is alleged that, during an altercation with staff, the male brandished a gun, which was later confirmed to be an imitation. Security at the Guelph General Hospital were able to apprehend the male prior to police arrival. As a result of this incident, Nicholas Lagala, a 26 year old Guelph male was charged with:

– Carry concealed weapon

– Weapon Dangerous to the public

– Assault with a weapon

– Use imitation firearm

– Point firearm

– Three counts of breaching an Officer in Charge Undertaking

– Breaching a Recognizance of Bail condition

He was held for a bail hearing and made an appearance on January 2, 2018. Note, there were no injuries as a result of this incident.

Collision at Wellington / Edinburgh

On January 2, 2017 at approximately 9:50am, Guelph police were called to the intersection of Wellington St. and Edinburgh Rd. S. A Honda, being driven by a 32 year old Guelph female was westbound on Wellington St. and a Nissan, driven by a 51 year old Guelph female, was southbound on Edinburgh Rd. S. The two vehicles collided within the intersection.

As a result of the collision, both drivers were transported to the Guelph General Hospital and subsequently released with minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damaged, estimated to be $26,000.

The driver of the Honda was charged with failing to stop for a red light under the Highway Traffic Act.
