The Guelph Police Association hosted their 33rd annual golf tournament, The Norma Owen Memorial Golf Tournament on September 9, 2015 at the Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club. This tournament is in memory of Constable Norma OWEN, who was a member of the Guelph Police Service and succumbed to cancer in 1983. We have had this golf tournament since 1983. The Norma Owen Memorial Golf Tournament has been a fixture in the community since 1983 and it continues to thrive with the ongoing participation and support of our corporate sponsors, local businesses and many individuals.

The Guelph Police Association continues to support Hospice Wellington with the proceeds of the tournament.

We are thrilled to announce the proceeds of this year’s tournament were $16,400. The Guelph Police Association’s Norma Owen Golf Tournament has now donated $317,400 to cancer related charities since the tournament’s inception in 1983.

The cheque presentation took place on Wednesday January 27, 2016 at Hospice Wellington.

Break and enter

On February 2, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a St. Arnaud Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime overnight and stole a bike from the unlocked utility room. A call on February 1st, to this same residence had the resident seeing a man leaving that room. He was described as white, in his forties, brown/grey short hair and unshaven. It is unknown if these two incidents are related.

Break and enter – update

On November 2, 2015 at 9:11 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Woodlawn Road West business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the locked compound sometime over the weekend and stole a trailer containing four snowmobiles.

Two males have now been arrested in connection to this break and enter.

Devon Harris, 20 years of Brantford has been charged with break and enter. He will appear in court on March 4, 2016.

Jakub Skoczen, 20 years of Brant County has been charged with break and enter. He will appear in court on March 4, 2016.

A third male is still outstanding.

Impaired driver arrested

On February 2, 2016 at 9:14 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver on an electric scooter in the area of the Stone Road Mall. The bike was observed being driven solely by electric power and was missing a pedal. Police located the male, determined he had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested.

James Gamble, 67 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on February 16, 2016.

Impaired driver arrested

On February 3, 2016 at 2:05 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver that was in the drive through line up at the McDonalds on Woodlawn Road West. Police located the vehicle still in the lineup and observed that the two passenger side tires were flat. Police spoke with the male driver, determined that he had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested.

Rodney Stadnyk, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on February 19, 2016.

Theft from cars

On February 2, 2016 the Guelph Police received two reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Hales Crescent and Maple Street.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
