Guelph Police Daily News Release – 01Sept2016

Impaired Driver Arrested

On August 31st, 2016 at 1:31 p.m, a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement on Victoria Road North. While there they observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop. Police spoke with the male driver and subsequently determined that he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

A 44 year old male of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive over 80mg, and Speeding. He will appear in court on September 13th, 2016.

Collision

On August 31, 2016 at approximately 6:15, Guelph police, were sent to a collision at the intersection of Speedvale Ave. West and Marksham Rd. Investigation revealed that two vehicles collided in the intersection. One driver was transported to the Guelph General hospital and subsequently released with minor injuries.

Intersection collisions are common. The Guelph Police Service Traffic Division want to remind you, when making a turning movement, it is your responsibility to ensure you can make the turn safely.

Workplace Accident

On August 31st, 2016, at approximately 3:10pm, while working at a construction site at 11Wyndham Street North in Guelph, a 19 year old male fell two stories. The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital where he received medical attention. The Ministry of Labor was notified.

Disturbance on College Avenue

On August 31st, 2106, at 4:30pm, an emotionally distraught 23 year old female became upset and smashed her neighbor’s car windows with a hammer. She then used the same hammer to tear apart their gardens before returning to her residence. Police attended but the female would not exit the house. At 7:16pm, the female was apprehended by police without incident. She was transported to the Guelph General Hospital. The investigation continues with respect to the property damage.

Road safety enforcement August 31st, 2016

On August 31st, 2016, 15 tickets were issued throughout the city of Guelph for numerous offences some of them being speeding, using a cell phone while driving, turn not in safety and having expired validation sticker.

The Guelph Police were involved in 193 incidents in the past 24 hours. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
