In the early afternoon of April 30th , two women could hear a loud argument coming from a neighbour’s homes on Yorkshire Street and knocked on the door to check on everyone’s wellbeing. The two were met by an aggressive woman who answered the door armed with a knife. The two women retreated and the woman threw the knife at them, striking one of them in the chest area. Neither one of the concerned women were injured.
Police were called and the 24 year old Guelph woman who threw the knife was located and arrested. She is charged with assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous to the public peace and was held in custody to appear in bail court today.
Man veers car into oncoming traffic
At approximately 5:05pm on April 30th, a Guelph woman was driving on Gordon Street with her brother in the front passenger seat. The brother was quite agitated with her and grabbed the steering wheel of the car, forcing it to go completely across the oncoming lane of traffic. The woman braked hard and stopped short of striking a utility pole. Police came across the vehicle and spoke to the woman.
Investigation resulted in the 32 year old man from Guelph being arrested at the scene and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of uttering threats and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court today.
Busy Saturday night in the downtown core
There were large crowds reported in the downtown area on Saturday night that were orderly for the most part. Of note was that there were 8 tickets issued under the City By-law for urinating in a public place. That particular offence comes with a fine of $365.00.
Impaired driving
On April 30th at approximately 12:20am, police stopped a man for speeding on Gordon Street in the south end of Guelph. While the investigating officer interacted with the driver, he formed the grounds to believe that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired by alcohol. The male registered a fail on an approved roadside screening device and was arrested.
Derek McKenna, a 35 year old from Morriston, was charged with operate motor vehicle with over .08mgs of alcohol and was also served with a 90 day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension. He was later released to appear in court on May 12, 2017.
Traffic enforcement
Numbers from the weekend show that there were 109 vehicles stopped and Provincial Offence notices were issued to 63 drivers. One driver in particular was found to be driving while under suspension and received a total of seven offence notices for his indiscretions.
Calls for service
Over the weekend, the Guelph Police Service responded to 585 calls for service.
