(NORTH HURON, ON) – On January 22, 2011 at approximately 9:00 pm, Huron OPP officers were dispatched to a single vehicle snowmobile collision that occurred on private property on Blyth Road in North Huron. Officers, paramedics and fire were transported to the crash site by snowmobile. The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of driving. He suffered serious but non – life threatening injuries.
Investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol prior to riding his snowmobile. A Search Warrant was prepared to analyze blood taken by the Clinton Hospital staff. The Search Warrant was granted and blood was forwarded to the Center for Forensic Sciences in Toronto for analysis. The results of the analysis confirmed that the snowmobile driver had a blood alcohol level in excess of the legal limit of 80 milligrams.
As a result, Gordon COLES (53) of North Huron has been charged with one count of Impaired Driving and one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He will answer to his charges in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 4, 2011.
