Good Samaritans Pepper Sprayed While Protecting Fleeing Mother And Child

On March 29, 2016 at 1:16 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Surrey Street residence for an assault investigation. It is alleged that a male and female became involved in a verbal argument that escalated when the male assaulted the female. She ran from the home with her child who was present at the time. Two people walking by saw her running and observed the male pursuing her. They intervened in an attempt to help but the male pulled out a bottle of bear spray and sprayed both of them in the face. He then fled the area on foot. Police located and arrested him a short distance away.

The 27-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of assault, assault cause bodily harm, utter threats, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of administer noxious substance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on March 30, 2016.
